Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, non-invasive manual technique that has a powerful effect on the body. The skin is stretched and torqued in a specific manner, based on scientific, physiological principles that have proven to encourage lymph flow.

MLD affects the nervous system by lowering sympathetic tonus which can have an effect on smooth muscles innervated by the sympathetic system, for example in blood and lymph vessels, as well as intestinal motility. It can also help to recuperate from chronic illness by allowing their parasympathetic nervous system to predominate. MLD is calming and relaxing to receive and patients often feel a sense of well-being after treatment.

Through the pumping and stretching effect on the lymph vessels, the Vodder method of Manual Lymph Drainage stimulates the contraction of smooth muscles in lymph vessels, helping to move the lymph forward and drain the connective tissue.

Fluid movement in the connective tissue (interstitial fluid) as well as the movement of lymph is assisted with a correctly performed MLD. By stimulating microcirculation and lymph vessel motility, MLD can be successfully employed in edematous conditions, such as lymphedema and certain types of venous edema.

Indirectly it may also affect the immune system. By assisting lymph flow, MLD is thought to bring pathogens quicker to the lymph nodes where they can be neutralized.

Why Choose MLD?

  • Targeted results – Ideal for managing chronic swelling, brain fog, migraines, lymphedema, fibromyalgia, lipedema, and arthritis.

  • Holistic wellness – Sessions promote deep parasympathetic relaxation, encouraging restorative sleep and whole-body balance.

  • Evidence-informed – MLD is widely used to reduce painful swelling associated with lymphedema and other conditions that block lymph flow.

Who Should Consider MLD?

  • Anyone seeking a gentle, drug-free way to support immunity and reduce inflammation.

  • Athletes looking to accelerate recovery between training sessions.

  • Individuals experiencing chronic puffiness, sluggishness, or post-illness fatigue.

  • People with medical clearance for MLD who want to complement their wellness plan.

Contraindications: MLD is not appropriate for individuals with active infection, uncontrolled congestive heart failure, acute blood clots, or severe kidney disease. Always consult your healthcare provider first

Post-Operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Post-operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a highly specialized technique designed to reduce swelling, support tissue recovery, ease discomfort, and promote a sense of calm during the healing process. Whether you’re navigating the early days after surgery or progressing through later stages of recovery, each session is tailored to your unique needs, procedure, and surgeon’s recommendations.
